ENGLISH It is the duty of all of us to remember and honor Roma Genocide victims. Under National Socialism, hundreds of thousands of Germany and other European countries were persecuted as “gypsies” between 1933 and 1945. The goal of the National Socialist state and its racist ideology was the destruction of this minority. The official number of victims of the Roma minority reaches 500,000 but the number is higher because according to historical facts, Nazi troops had the practice of executing in their hometowns or in ghettos, or on the way to concentration camps. The Albanians showed solidarity with the Jewish people during the Second World War, supporting and sheltering them from Nazi forces. The same can be said for sure about the Roma minority, who from the unwritten data we have, have contributed to the National Liberation War. On 16 May, many of the 6000 prisoners still alive in the “Gypsy camp” at Auschwitz-Bikernau resist their imminent murder. Around half of them are deported to other concentration camps for forced labor. The remaining 2897 survivors – mostly children, women, and elderly people are murdered in the gas chambers in the night of 2 August. Therefore, the 2nd of August is known as Roma Genocide Remembrance Day – Samudaripen.
