Covid-19: Emergency Fund Response

COVID-19 EMERGENCY FUND RESPONSE
DISTRIBUTION OF THE SCHOOL MATERIAL, FOOD AND HYGIENE PACKAGES

In response to the current challenges Roma families and communities face due to the COVID–19 pandemic, the Roma Education Fund has created an Emergency Fund and Action plan to provide support to the continuation of education and learning. This project is implemented by Roma Versitas Albania in collaboration with 6 partner organisations: Disutni Albania, Plan and Go, Voice of Roma, Ushten, Rromano Kham and Institute of Romani Culture in Albania. In addition to educational support, pupils and students are also supported with didactic and nutritional packages. All children who have been supported have been selected by the facilitators of the
partner organisations. A total of 135 packages of didactic materials and 100 food packages were distributed in the respective cities where the partner organisations operate, respectively in the cities: Shkodra, Tirana, Durres, Fier and Korca. 135 students, 51 males and 66 females, were supported with food and school supplies.

The materials were distributed for a period of 3 days, respectively on September 3rd – 4th – 5th. All selected beneficiaries have been notified by the facilitators for the distribution dates according to the agenda for each organisation. The children were accompanied by their parents.

At the READ closing conference organized by The GOETHE Institute and regional partners. Roma Versitas Albania was awarded twice with cultural and literature/translation projects. The impact of the READ project was multifold. We translated two graphic novels in Romani language, Turkish and Macedonian, exchanged experiences with other NGOs in the region altogether we share same values and appreciate diversity and acceptance, we networked and lastly, we are hopeful to continue our contribution in these themes. Much appreciated to the organizers for hosting us.
