Access to Justice for Roma

The Legal Education of the Roma students, Community and Health Mediators to Facilitate Access to Justice for their Communities

The project aims to bring about the following results or outcomes:

  • Support, empower, and strengthen awareness about human rights for thirty (30) Roma and Egyptian students. Students are at secondary and tertiary levels of education and are beneficiaries of other RVA project components;
  • Compile a tailored module for abovementioned students. Module will contain ten (10) lessons on topics including human rights, collective power, and community mobilization;
  • Increase the above-mentioned students’ awareness and knowledge of their rights, their capacity to access their rights, and their ability to meet their institutional duties;
  • Strengthen Roma people’s access to justice by inter alia developing the legal awareness of marginalized communities regarding their freedoms and lawful interests;
  • Develop Roma people’s capacity to reach out and gain support from human rights institutions including the Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination, the Ombudsman, the Commissioner for the right to Information and Date Protection, free legal institutions (offline and online), and legal/social service providers.
