Background information about Roma Versitas Albania

Roma Versitas Albania was initially a program that started on September 2014 as a program of Roma Education Fund. On the 8th of April 2016, after a joint initiative with Roma students, and with the support of the Roma Education Fund, it became a civil society organization. Roma Versitas Albania aims to increase academic performance and graduation rates, while building the advocacy, self-esteem and identity of Roma and Egyptian students enrolled in public and private education institutions in Albania, and also supporting them during transition to tertiary or VET secondary education to access the labour market.

Roma Versitas Albania (RVA) is seeking a Project Coordinator to join the project team in the implementation of the project “Municipal Scholarship Scheme for Roma and Egyptian Students in Compulsory Education”, funded by European Union in cooperation with Open Society Foundation for Albania, Social Action and Innovation Centre (KMOP), and Municipality of Tirana, and implemented by RVA. The project aims to a higher attendance and performance rate among Roma and Egyptians students attending compulsory education through support with municipality scholarships. Project duration is through May 2025.

 

Position specifics

The Project Coordinator will work in close cooperation and under the supervision of the Executive Director of Roma Versitas in Albania, and with the Project Manager and Finance Officer of the project team at Municipality of Tirana. He/She will also work closely with the Roma Versitas Albania staff for better implementation of his/her tasks.

 

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Manage the relationship with the partners and stakeholders;
  • Manage, coordinate and supervise the mentors;
  • Coordinate and follow up on work meetings;
  • Meet with partners to take detailed activity briefs and clarify specific requirements of each activity;
  • Define activity, sequence activity, estimate the duration of activity, develop a schedule, maintain a schedule;
  • Manage implementation of all project activities;
  • To establish and maintain reporting system and activities, including overall data collection and reporting strategies across various activities, to ensure standard procedures and guidelines;
  • Ensure that all activities are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget;
  • Creating a detailed work plan and giving orientation to the project activities in qualitative way;
  • Take care about the regular payment of fellowship for students;
  • To provide recommendations and guidelines to mentors;
  • To organize, file and maintain activity related documentation for the students (beneficiaries of scholarship program);
  • Prepare interim and final reports;
  • To regularly report and discuss all the details of the process implementation with the director RVA and project manager;
  • Responsible for all logistics with regard to project’s activities;
  • Plan field visits in timeframe with project activities;
  • To ensure proper communication (internal and external) related to the project and supervise appropriate filing of the project’s documentation;
  • Monitoring overall progress and use of resources, initiating corrective action where necessary;
  • To supervise, monitor and evaluate implementation of the project activities and manage the appropriate spending of the project budget;
  • To closely monitor the performance of pupils in schools and the performance of mentors;
  • Identify and evaluate potential risks.

 

Necessary Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree/BA or equivalent degree; advanced degree preferred;
  • Two to three years of relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience, project management, and project coordination;
  • Work experience with civil society organization, Roma and Egyptian Community;
  • Experience and competencies in working in a multicultural environment;
  • Familiarity with the Roma strategies in the country.

 

The Project Coordinator will carry out his assignment on a part-time (50%) basis for a period of 12 months between: June 2024 – May 2025.
