Call for Mentors: “Back to School” Project

Roma Versitas Albania (RVA) is a non-profit organization whose main objective is to increase the number of Roma students who graduate and integrate into the labour market, as well as increasing the representation of Roma in decision-making institutions. A particular priority of RVA is the development of a core of Roma professionals, intellectuals and leaders who contribute to the social and economic development of the Roma community.

Within these objectives, RVA offers assistance and guidance to Roma students throughout their educational process, with the aim of fostering their independence and supporting them in their transformation into educated and active individuals in society. This will enable them to contribute to the development of the Roma community at local, national and international levels.

Therefore, RVA has been appointed to implement the “Back to School” project – scholarship program for Roma and Egyptian children in compulsory education in Tirana Municipality, financed by the European Union within the “INCLUSIVE EDUJOBS” project. The main goal of this project is to ensure the stable attendance of 50 students in school, good learning achievements and reduce illiteracy. Also, the project aims to increase the economic income of Roma and Egyptian families, as well as combat the phenomenon of child labour and begging.

We invite all those who match the criteria of the project and are interested in applying to be a mentor, to send their applications by 30.09.2024.

 

Mentor’s responsibilities:

  • To monitor students’ attendance;
  • To maintain constant contact with students and their parents;
  • To help the students with the preparation of the tasks after the lesson;

To support students with the difficulties they encounter in different subjects;

  • Be a positive role model;
  • Reporting regularly to the project coordinator about the students’ progress and any problems encountered.

 

Minimum essential requirements for the Mentors:

  • To be a high school student
  • Have a desire to be a mentor
  • To have up-to-date knowledge about primary education
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good listening and communication skills

* Preference will be given to Roma applicants who meet the above criteria.
